IBADAN \u2013 REPRIEVE has come to thousands of patients in Oyo State who have been denied medical services as a result of the seven months old strike embarked upon by the doctors as the association called off the strike, Monday.<\/p>\n

The Association of Medical and Dental Officers in the state through its Chairman, Dr. Jeremiah Simire, his secretary, Dr. Fola Oni in a communiqu\u00e9 directed all its members to resume work tomorow.<\/p>\n

The communiqu\u00e9 stated that the decision to suspend the strike was reached at the end of an emergency meeting of the association.<\/p>\n

It further stated that the decision to call off the strike was necessary in view of the earlier meeting they held with Governor Abiola Ajimobi.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe discussions and advice of the Nigerian Medical Association based on the Executive Governor\u2019s speech at the opening ceremony of the 2011 annual general conference held in Ibadan last week. The association has subsequently agreed to suspend the ongoing strike action immediately and all members are directed to resume work in their respective hospitals on Tuesday.\u201d<\/p>\n

The doctors started the strike in 2010 as a result of alleged government\u2019s failure to employ at least 100 doctors for the state hospitals to reduce their workload.<\/p>\n

Other demands of the medical practitioners are non-implementation of the Consolidated Salary Structure for doctors which was approved by the National Salary and Wages Commission since 2009, failure of the government to reverse the arbitrary taxation of their salary, non-payment of their CONMESS arrears from January 2010 and complaints that they are the least paid among the doctors in the country.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
