{"id":436957,"date":"2011-06-06T17:28:00","date_gmt":"2011-06-06T17:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/06\/06\/stolen-police-uniforms-trail-leads-to-undp\/"},"modified":"2011-06-06T17:28:00","modified_gmt":"2011-06-06T17:28:00","slug":"stolen-police-uniforms-trail-leads-to-undp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/06\/06\/stolen-police-uniforms-trail-leads-to-undp\/","title":{"rendered":"Stolen Police Uniforms Trail Leads to UNDP"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"44.5985383065\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newdemocratnews.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Democrat<\/a> (Monrovia)<\/p>\n<p>4 June 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>The mystery over unaccounted for police uniforms for which former police chief Beatrice Monah Sieh-Brown is scheduled to stand trial is slowly unfolding, with reports that key officials at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), financiers of the missing uniforms, are linked.<\/p>\n<p>Sources told this paper Thursday that UN investigators have arrived in the country for further probe of the uniforms mystery and perhaps other issues, but that some of the UNDP officials allegedly involved in the police uniform deal, including the UNDP procurement chief, have already been fired.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Justice Minister Christina Tah said her ministry was finding it difficult to prosecute the case because of lack of evidence. She said the government would proceed with the case if and when the UNDP provided documentary evidence.<\/p>\n<p>Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) chair Frances Johnson-Morris has said she is frustrated over the snail-pace action of the Justice Ministry in prosecuting the case.<\/p>\n<p>LACC sources disclosed to this paper that they believe that they are actually looking at two cases.<\/p>\n<p>On the one hand, investigators say the UNDP previously purchased uniform for the police through a Nigerian businessman and proprietor of Ultimate Investment &#038; Holding Company, Prince O. A. Akinremi.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, police authorities awarded a US$199, 800.00 to the same Prince O.A. Akinremi to procure uniforms for the LNP. It is this case, investigators say, they are investigating and not the UNDP case. Two weeks ago, the UNDP said it would provide its document to the government and not the press.<\/p>\n<p>The LACC has always maintained that its investigation has revealed numerous irregularities surrounding the procurement of the uniforms that were not delivered.<\/p>\n<p>LACC further maintained that its findings revealed that the Ultimate Investment &#038; Holding Company owned by Prince O. A.
