{"id":436950,"date":"2011-06-06T17:25:24","date_gmt":"2011-06-06T17:25:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/06\/06\/gtti-holds-architecture-and-arts-exhibition\/"},"modified":"2011-06-06T17:25:24","modified_gmt":"2011-06-06T17:25:24","slug":"gtti-holds-architecture-and-arts-exhibition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/06\/06\/gtti-holds-architecture-and-arts-exhibition\/","title":{"rendered":"Gtti Holds Architecture and Arts Exhibition"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"69.3727598566\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.observer.gm\/enews\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Daily Observer<\/a> (Banjul)<\/p>\n<p>Momodou Jawo and Gibbi Sallah<\/p>\n<p>6 June 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>The Architectural Students&#8217; Association of The Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI), last Friday organised the first-ever students&#8217; architecture and arts exhibition at the school campus in Kanifing.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the exhibition is to expose the talents of the students to their colleagues, the staff, professionals in the field, and the general public.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the opening ceremony, the director of GTTI, Abdoulie MA Loum commended the students for coming up with such an initiative. He said it is a widely accepted fact that a knowledge-based economic system is essential to the development aspirations of any nation, and this can be achieved through effective and well implemented policies in technical and vocational education, as well as training and sustained commitment by all stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the exhibition on the works of the students will no doubt boost the moral of both the staff and students of the Construction Department and other departments to willingly contribute significantly to the development of GTTI. He explained that investment in infrastructural design is one of the main constraints to further the expansion and improvement of the systems quality in the country&#8217;s construction industry.<\/p>\n<p>He said GTTI has not only concentrated in the professional development of their students through the delivery of the curriculum and subject matters, but has also inculcated in the students, work values and attitudes, such as creativity and adaptability, productivity, quality, efficiency, patience, perseverance, loyalty, commitment, freedom and responsibility, accountability, the spirit of service and genuine love for work itself.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on behalf of the head of the Construction Department, Bakary Gibba, applauded the students for what he described as a timely intervention. He opined that the objectives of this course are to adequately prepare and to be creative by using their imagination, and understanding the opportunity to develop personally and professionally. He expressed the Construction Department&#8217;s pride in the students and the institution&#8217;s management.<\/p>\n<p>Aminata Ceesay and Aminata Hydara, both Peace Corps volunteers, thanked the management of GTTI for their support in making the day a successful one. They said there has been a tremendous acceleration in the development of knowledge and skills in various disciplines in GTTI during this period of technological change especially in the construction industry.<\/p>\n<p>In his closing remarks, the director general of the National Training Authority (NTA), Ousman Nyang, underscored the importance of the exhibition. He said the NTA is highly interested in technical education. Nyang revealed that a technical student should always be very clever, while calling on the GTTI management to give the students support. He described their initiative as an inspiration for parents to start enrolling their students into the architectural department. He finally commended the Peace Corps volunteers for their tremendous support to the students.<\/p>\n<p>Other speakers included: Ghazi Farage, the president of Architecture Students&#8217; Association and Jahou S.
