Mr Welbeck Abra-Appiah, whose resignation as the Premier League Board (PLB) chairman shocked the soccer fraternity Thursday, has stated that the decision is irreversible.<\/p>\n
In an interview with the Graphic Sports, Mr Abra-Appiah ruled out the possibility of being persuaded to rescind his decision since he needed some time to attend to some private interests.<\/p>\n
The accomplished soccer administrator-cum banker is only waiting to \u201clay down his tools\u201d after the last round of matches on Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cFootball takes a lot of my time, and that is affecting my business and effectiveness on the many boards I serve on.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryday I\u2019m at the FA, including Sundays when I have to travel to league centres as a co-ordinator to monitor the performance of referees\u201d, he revealed.<\/p>\n
The sacrifices notwithstanding, he bemoaned the fact that there was no remuneration for the PLB job.<\/p>\n
He said all those factors informed his decision to resign after a careful re-examination of his life, vis-a-vis the need to protect his hard-earned reputation in view of the controversies that have engulfed the final matches of the Premier League.<\/p>\n
Though many have linked his resignation to comments made by him on Happy FM last Monday in connection with the Disciplinary Committee\u2019s ruling in favour of Mighty Jets which attracted impeachment threats from FA member, Jordan Anagbla, Mr Abra-Appiah explained that he had earlier had a chat with the GFA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, on his intended resignation even before that incident.<\/p>\n
Mr Abra-Appiah, one of the longest-serving officials in Ghana football, became the PLB chairman in 2006 after serving as the vice chairman for many years. Before then, he had served on various FA committees and was also a one-time vice chairman of the Organisation of Ghana League Clubs Association (OGLCA) which metamorphosed into GHALCA.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
