Acting Principal magistrate Alagbe Taiwo Ade of the Banjul Magistrates’ court yesterday 2nd June made an order for Bun Sanneh, the former Executive Director of the National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA) and Ousman Sanneh, former operative of the same agency, to appear before him and testify as witnesses in the case of Lamin Darboe, Ebrima Drammeh (Jim Drammeh), Edrisa Jobe (alias Alagie Morr) and Omar Jammeh (alias Boy boots).<\/p>\n

The Magistrate said this is in line with the application made by the Director of Special Litigation, Daniel O Kulo, that the summon be served to the two former NDEA officials through the Director General of Prisons for them to appear in court on the next adjourned date, 13th June 2011.<\/p>\n

Aboulie Sissoho counsel for the first and second accused persons, Lamin Darboe and Ebrima Drammeh, held brief for Loubna Farage, counsel for Edrisa Jobe (3rd accused person) and Assan Martin, counsel for Omar Jammeh (fourth accused) did not raise any objection to the application made by State counsel Kulo.<\/p>\n

Readers could recall that Lamin Darboe, Ebrima Jammeh and Edrisa Jobe are standing trial on two counts of criminal offences. Count One states that the three accused persons, sometime in May 2009 at the NIA head office in Banjul, conspired among themselves to cause injury to the persons of Lamin Karbou and Lamin Sima.<\/p>\n

On Count Two, it states that the accused persons, sometime in May 2009, at the NIA head office in Banjul, with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to Lamin Karbou and Lamin Sima, unlawfully wounded Lamin Karbou and Lamin Sima, by beating them with fist blows, electric cables and metals.<\/p>\n

The charge against Mr. Jammeh is Common Assault contrary to Section 227 of the Criminal Code, Laws of The Gambia.<\/p>\n

The accused persons had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.<\/p>\n
