Stewart Downing<\/a> has once again questioned his future at the club after reiterating his desire to play Champions League football.<\/span><\/p>\nDowning has been linked with a move to Liverpool ater a promising season at Villa Park last season.<\/span><\/p>\nThe 26-year-old has two years remaining on his current deal but insists he is fully focussed on Aston Villa.<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cIf you ask any player about interest from clubs, they get flattered by it but I think you\u2019ve just got to keep your mind on the job and keep playing well for your club and country,\u201d Downing said in an article in The Gazettelize.com.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n\u201cAll players want to play at the highest level and in the biggest competitions. With England as well, all the top players play in good teams. I\u2019m no different.<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cYou just want the best for your career. You want to finish with medals at the end of it so, if it\u2019s a step up with Villa or with someone else, I\u2019m ready for it.<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cYou watch teams in the Champions League and it makes you wish you were there. You sit at home and watch it, hear the music come on, you see the teams and you think \u2018that\u2019s where you want to be\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cIt\u2019s the pinnacle. It\u2019s the best. It\u2019s the best standard with the best players. It would be nice to taste that one day.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\nDowning revealed theclub are looking to extend his current deal but has admitted talks have not been successful thus far.<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cMy agent had a meeting with the club – just one meeting – and he just felt it was the right time not to sign my contract,” he said.<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cI\u2019ve still got two years to go, so I\u2019ve still got a long time to go, so I just decided to leave it as it is.<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cWill I be at Villa next season? I\u2019m not sure. I mean, we had the meeting with the club, we expressed our feelings and they said to me they\u2019re going to improve the team and the squad.<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cSo, as far as I know, I\u2019ll still be reporting back for pre- season because I\u2019ve heard nothing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
