Internacional<\/a> have turned down an offer from Tottenham<\/a> for striker Leandro Damiao<\/a>, the club’s president has confirmed.

Goal.com<\/strong> exclusively revealed<\/a> last month that Spurs and Barcelona were set for talks with the player’s agent, with the north London club in a strong position to sign him.<\/span><\/p>\n

But an offer of \u20ac12 million (\u00a310.5m) from Tottenham for 70 per cent of the player\u2019s rights has been rejected, and president Giovanni Luigi insists the Brazil international will only be allowed to leave at the end of the year and for a higher price.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cIt was the first concrete offer we\u2019ve had.<\/p>\n

\u201cI told them that I didn\u2019t want to sell now. I think they\u2019ll return with a new offer. I advised them that he will only leave at the end of the year and for a far greater fee.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tottenham\u2019s proposal came following the recommendation of their midfielder Sandro, who played alongside Damiao before moving to White Hart Lane last year.<\/p>\n

Damiao struck 12 goals in 34 games for Internacional in 2010, including one in their Libertadores final victory over Guadalajara. He also finished as the Campeonato Gaucho\u2019s 16-goal leading marksman during Inter\u2019s run to the title.<\/p>\n

Damiao made his Brazil debut in a 2-0 friendly win over Scotland in March, and although he failed to make the scoresheet, he hit the crossbar with a header and impressed with his movement and hold-up play.<\/p>\n

The striker is currently part of Mano Menezes\u2019 squad for the forthcoming internationals against Netherlands and Romania.<\/span><\/p>\n
