Sokoto -Some young adolescent girls aged between 10 and 15 years\u00a0 in Sokoto State have formed an Anti-Rape Vanguard.<\/p>\n

The girls under the auspices of the vanguard had also organised a sensitisation meeting on sexual abuse and HIV\/AIDS in Tangaza Local Government Area after a peer-education training.<\/p>\n

NAN also reported that followed the training on the same topic organised by the association for better community health in collaboration with Global Fund for Women.<\/p>\n

The training was organised for 20 adult women and 30 adolescent girls from Binji and Tangaza local government areas on reproductive health.<\/p>\n

Another fall-out of the training was the formation of the vanguard\u2019s chapter in each of the 23 local government areas of\u00a0 the state.<\/p>\n

The District Head of Binji, Alhaji Usman Abdulwahab, represented by Alhaji Sada Usman, pledged the sustained support and cooperation to ensure the reduction of the incidences of rape.<\/p>\n

\u2018\u2019We will also make sure that the culprits are brought to book. I am, however, urging\u00a0 women to always report cases to the authorities, especially the traditional rulers and policy-makers.<\/p>\n

\u2018\u2019This is to enable the\u00a0 government to be aware of the magnitude of the problem to take the necessary actions to stop the ugly incidences,\u201d he added .<\/p>\n

Hajiya Hajara Momodu, the Executive Director of the association, said that \u201cat least one child is raped every week in Sokoto\u00a0 State and hence increases the spread of HIV\/AIDS\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
