AWKA\u2014 LEADERS of of Obosi community in Idemili North local government area of Anambra State, yesterday, made a passionate plea to the federal and state governments to intervene immediately in the crisis rocking the town, following the activities of the banned Adike Peace Foundation, APF.<\/p>\n

The crisis has since claimed the lives of five people and property worth millions of Naira.
The appeal came on the heels of reports that members of APF, yesterday, caused mayhem in the town during which a motorcyclist in the area was attacked and his body punctured with nails.<\/p>\n

Addressing newsmen in Awka, spokesman for Obosi community, Prince Chinedum Iweka, said the community was worried that despite petitions written to various bodies, including the Senate, House of Representatives and security operatives over the crisis in the town, nothing had happened.<\/p>\n

Other leaders from the community who were present at the news briefing were the traditional Prime Minister of the town, Chief Ernest Ojiaku, Chief Godwin Osakwe, Chief Anthony Nwabude and Chief Austin Nwabude.<\/p>\n

He added that the group had been sending threat text messages to prominent people in the area that their houses would be burnt if they continued to oppose them.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cFor many years, the people of Obosi have cried out to Anambra Police Command concerning the activities of Omezie Chukwurah who has terrorised the town with members of his group.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe excesses of the militant group led to its ban by Anambra State government on 27 September, 2010, and the suspension of the traditional ruler of Obosi, Igwe Josiah Nwakobi.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThese APF militants have been hiding in nearby bushes and uncompleted buildings around Obosi from where they attack unsuspecting citizens. The question is why has the police not responded to all the petitions by Obosi people over the years? Also, why has the police not called Chukwurah to order for parading himself as a bosom friend of the Inspector General of Police, IGP?<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we need is for the federal and state governments to intervene in this matter without further delay to save the lives and property of Obosi people. There are many policemen parading the streets of Obosi, but they have refused to arrest members of APF who have been boasting of their connection inn high places.<\/p>\n

\u201cDespite the fact that the leader of APF, Chukwurah was recently declared wanted by the police after the murder of an 83 \u2013 year old man during a community meeting in the town, he has continued to harass maim people.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
