{"id":433754,"date":"2011-06-01T01:55:23","date_gmt":"2011-06-01T01:55:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/06\/01\/boko-haram-kills-shehu-of-borno%e2%80%99s-brother\/"},"modified":"2011-06-01T01:55:23","modified_gmt":"2011-06-01T01:55:23","slug":"boko-haram-kills-shehu-of-bornos-brother","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/06\/01\/boko-haram-kills-shehu-of-bornos-brother\/","title":{"rendered":"Boko Haram kills Shehu of Borno\u2019s brother"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"73\">\n<p>By NDAHI MARAMA<\/p>\n<p>MAIDUGURI \u2014 Suspected members of the Yusufiyya sect popularly known as Boko Haram, Tuesday,\u00a0 shot dead the younger brother of the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, Abba Anas Umar Garbai El-Kanemi.<\/p>\n<p>Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Lawal Abdullahi said Garbai El-Kanemi, 30, was killed in his residence at Gangamar, in Shehuri North in the Maiduguri metropolis about 9pm on Monday night, by some unidentified gunmen.<br \/>Abdullahi described the incident as unfortunate,vowing that the police would soon\u00a0 fish out the culprits and punish them in accordance with the law.<\/p>\n<p>A member of the family of the deceased\u00a0 who preferred anonymity told Vanguard that he was in the Shehu\u2019s palace when he received a call that Garbai El-Kanemi had been shot by unknown gunmen.<\/p>\n<p>He said he immediately asked them to move to the scene in company of some policemen from the palace, adding that on getting there, they saw the deceased in a pool of blood.<\/p>\n<p>According to the source,the body of Garbai El-Kanemi, a former security officer was later conveyed to the Shehu\u2019s palace.<br \/>Meanwhile, thousands of sympathizers had started flocking into the palace to condole the Shehu after burying the deceased at the royal cemetery within the palace.<\/p>\n<p>Among the early callers was the new Governor Kashim Shettima, who prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased.<br \/>Boko Haram members had targeted security officers, political leaders and clerics in a series of killings in the state in the last one year.<\/p>\n<p>The Islamic fundamentalists had particularly also attacked churches as well as spear-headed massive prison revolt in the past.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Comments are moderated.
