Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) Mrs Ifueko Omoigui-Okauru, has said that the achievement of the country\u2019s developmental drive is dependent on prompt tax payments.<\/p>\n

She stated this in an interview with newsmen in Abuja at the formal inauguration of President Goodluck Jonathan. She noted that though Nigerians had high expectation of President Jonathan in terms of development as he was inaugurated for a fresh term in office, such expectation might remain a mirage without the appropriate revenue generated through taxation. \u201cNigerians have a lot of expectation of what is expected of this country and as the Chairman of FIRS I will like to urge Nigerians that as we have these expectations, they should please pay their taxes timely and in a good manner so that we can begin to generate large funds that will really help in developing this country,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

Omogui-Okauru congratulated President Jonathan on his victory at the election and his inauguration and wished him the best in his next four years in office.<\/p>\n

In his prayers at the inauguration, the head of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) Archbishop Nicholas Okoh asked God to grant the country peace and tranquility and to give President Jonathan the courage to deal with the monster of corruption in the country.<\/p>\n

He also prayed that God should deliver Jonathan from smooth talkers and grant him the wisdom to choose the right people for his cabinet.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
