Parents, teachers and all stakeholders need to turnaround this trend and bring gender parity in learning institutions instead of favouring only boys,” she said.

Onunga said women have lost direction and drink too much which lead to embarrassing scenes at home. “Women, we are married to cook for our husbands. No hot porridge and good love for them and we shall be digging our own graves,” she said. The DC was speaking at Kiriko Primary School at the weekend during the Amagoro division education day that was also attended by area MP Sospeter Ojaamong and Teso professionals.

Onunga said it was regrettable Amagoro division will send only two students to university from those who sat 2010 KCSE and called for concerted efforts to reverse the trend. Ojaamong revealed some school heads were fleecing the government by falsifying the number of pupils registered for the Free Primary and Secondary Education programmes.

He told district education officer Wangotho Maina to ensure right returns and correct funds were received and warned heads who use shortcuts to enrich themselves that their days are numbered. Ojaamong’ said CDF will donate Sh200, 000 for hosting the Teso North Education day and challenged stakeholders to invest in education.

Maina said Kiriko was last at district, provincial and national level since 2009 and it produced the last pupil in last year’s KCSE in Kenya.

He said owing to that disturbing trend he had opted to take over as patron to ensure the school, which had no infrastructure or staffing problems, is turned around.

A professional from the area, Godfrey Ipalei, who uses stumps to write, eat and wash stunned pupils and all those in attendance when he

revealed how he had shrugged off critics and succeeded against all odds. Ipalei, who is the ICT administrator at Kenya Wildlife Service in

Nairobi declared himself the man with the best handwriting in the world despite using only stumps to write because he was born without hands.

“I never missed school even a single day and trekked 4km everyday and not forgetting that I ate one piece of cassava for my lunch owing to

the fact that my parents were too poor to provide us with decent meals,” Ipalei said.

Flashing the book he has authored, Mulemavu? Si Mimi (Disabled? Not me), Ipalei who has also authored another book “Caught in the middle” regretted that some parents of Kiriko gave their children one glass of beer for lunch and expect results. Teso National Development Professionals Forum chairman Gregory Epus said Teso boys had used facebook to ridicule their female counterparts from the community as to why they can make good wives and told them to shun unethical behaviour.

<fieldset>
<legend align="center">More News on allAfrica.com</legend>
</fieldset>

AllAfrica – All the Time

Read the original:
Women Enemies of Girl’s Education- DC

Nairobi Star (Nairobi) Reuben Olita 30 May 2011 TESO North DC Josephine Onunga has lashed out at women in the area for being ‘their own worst enemies.’ The DC said most mothers make their daughters do lost of house chores at the expense of school work. “The drop out rate of girls in Teso is alarming.
