Pa Dembo Touray has been urged to cut down his earnings in a bid to get a contract renewal with current club Djurgardens or risk leaving the club when the season ends.

Onetime big club Djurgardens are trying to cope with financial problems and as such, have handed Gambian goalkeeper Pa Dembo Touray an ultimatum to either lower his wages or be out of the club’s squad should the season end.

The 31-year-old former Real De Banjul glove man faces an undecided future at the Stockholm club as his current contract is on the verge of elapsing. Dembo once had a one-on-one with the Djurgardens serving sporting director over talks to reach a new contract agreement but nothing concrete came of the duo’s meeting.

The move to ask Touray to reduce his 80,000 crowns per month salary means the Gambian had better look elsewhere next season.

Speaking in an interview over his fate at DIF, he said: “I do not want to talk about it, I’ll talk to Magnus Pehrsson first and after that maybe I can tell you what happens. But now I focus only on taking three points and so that we start winning again”.

On the Move

Pa has a complete ten year stint with Djurgardens since signing from Gambia local club Real De Banjul in 2000, and is one of the club longest serving players and is honoured with the club captaincy for his long stay.

The 1.98m skipper was touted with a move to an unnamed English Championship club last summer, but a transfer to the English league, Gulf Countries or even South Africa could be very much on the cards.

However, Dembo is tight-lipped over rumours he will be quitting.

“I do not want to make any comment about it right now. All my focus is on making the best of me from the Royal Canal as possible,” he said.

Tough Game against Elfsborg

The former Assyriska and Valerenga goalkeeper looks undisturbed by his well-published future, as he looks forward to the derby against his fellow countryman Amadou Jawo’s club Elfsborg. Dembo made costly goalkeeping gaffes in the first encounter, handing striker Jawo the chance to wrap up a 3-0 win. He projects, it is going to be tough as he is ‘focusing only on the victory’.
