Charles W. Brumsine of the Liberty Party got one over the weekend and maximized it when he spoke to a group of tea sippers down town Monrovia.

“I had a lot of experience and exposure when I entered the [political] struggle,” he told a throng of young people. “I was not a student; I was not a young man; I was a man of deeds,” he said. “It was not without sacrifice. I abandoned my economic pursuits; and you can rest assured I will even risk my life for the benefit of Liberians.”

The Liberty Party strongman said when he returned to Liberia for the elections that were to be held in 2003, there were no other Liberian politicians that could stand to challenge former President Charles Taylor, who was reigning on the political throne at the time.

“But I came and stood to challenge him. For me, it was a mission of redemption on behalf of Liberians and the nation,” Cllr. Brumskine said.

He recalled that when Liberia was preparing for an election under the regime of now detained former president Charles Taylor, there were no Liberian politicians to put up a challenge against Charles Taylor by declaring their intention to contest the 2003 election.

The LP political leader further noted: “In 2003, when we were about to hold election in this country, there was no man, no woman who could stand before Mr. Taylor and say he or she would run against him.”

Then he added: “I had my own law firm in America; I was not working for somebody. I employed people; but I gave it up to come home because I love you; because I believe that there is be a better tomorrow for all Liberians.”

He told the huge crowd in audience that he took the decision to return home when people began thinking that something had gone wrong with his status in the USA or that he had a secret deal with Taylor; but he chose the decision to return because, according to him, Liberians needed an alternative that would rekindle the hopes and aspirations to the people and as well as to show to the international community that Liberians could vote another person at the time.

Amidst thunderous applauses, Brumsine boasted being a member of the US Supreme Court bar licensed to practice law in the United States, and he could have left Liberia to seek greener pasture like other Liberian politicians who have the tendency of returning abroad after suffering a political loss at home and plotting subversion against the people of Liberia.

“In 2005, I lost the election. I did not move out of this country to bring a warring faction, which I could have done,” he said. “I am licensed to practice law in Washington DC. In New York, I am member of the US Supreme Court bar. I am not a novice when it comes to the law. But I refused to leave because what would have happened to you if I had come back six years later and say to you that I want to be president? That would have been unfair to you.”

Brumskine indicated that he and Sen. Franklin Siakor’s ticket will pursue a robust economic policy that will not be fashioned after the Unity party’s Poverty Reduction Strategy, but will rather enunciate a fresh Liberty Party economic policy that will be based on wealth creation for Liberians through agriculture programs and farm to market road projects across the country.

He said under his administration as President, the Liberian society will be made the true vibrant society it actually is in which everyone will live in peace and happiness regardless of religious background.

<fieldset>
<legend align="center">More News on allAfrica.com</legend>
</fieldset>

AllAfrica – All the Time

See original article:
Brumskine Raps Potential Voters

30 May 2011 As the clock ticks onto the D-Day so are politicians stepping up their respective crusades to woo voters, using every available opportunity and forum.
