Edison Muzoora and how unidentified men in a vehicle dropped his body at his home remains a mystery. The body, which was dressed in a UPDF uniform, wrapped in clean, white bed sheets, appeared to have been preserved for weeks, security sources said.

There is suspicion in security circles that he could have been killed or died from outside Uganda and the body secretly brought into the country. It has also emerged that President Museveni on Saturday night summoned his spy chiefs to a meeting at State House, Entebbe where he asked them whether they had a clue on how Col. Muzoora was killed or died.

Sources privy to the discussion between Mr Museveni and his spies but asked for anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, said President Museveni was furious that the body of Col. Muzoora could be brought into the country with security and intelligence failing to detect it.

It will a big embarrassment to the Ugandan intelligence and security agencies if it is true that the body of Col. Muzoora was secretly transported through Ugandan border posts and driven to Bushenyi. Security sources suspect that the transporters of the body spent weeks plotting how to bring it and that explain why it was preserved. “Col. Muzoora was a wanted man, he could have been wanted for running away from the army but his major enemies were elsewhere. He has paid the price of his ‘patriotic skills’ he rendered the country while fighting in Congo and to us who know, we knew it was a matter of time,” said the source.

In the same meeting, Mr Museveni reportedly said the incident cannot be treated lightly, saying if such can happen, he could not rule out that an enemy can smuggle arms into the country. “You must get to the bottom of this matter and if this has gone unnoticed, I cannot rule out that an enemy can enter without you noticing,” the President is quoted to have said.

Col. Muzoora deserted the army in 2003 and fled Uganda allegedly through Rwanda and was allegedly the operations and field commander of People’s Redemption Army, a shadowy rebel group. He reportedly worked alongside Colonels Samson Mande and Anthony Kyakabale, both exiled.

The army Spokesperson, Lt. Col. Felix Kulayigye, yesterday said the army will not take part in the burial arrangements. “We are not participating in his burial and I have not been given instructions on how to handle the process,” he said.

When asked whether the army could have received the results of the postmortem carried out at Mbarara Referral Hospital, Col. Kulayigye said they were not concerned. “That is police work. Col. Muzoora deserted the army and declared war against us. I would imagine police could be interested and could have the results and not us,” Col. Kulaigye said. He further said the army last followed Col. Muzoora’s movements when he was the commander of PRA in DR Congo.

Ms Polly Namaye, the police spokesperson Southwestern region, said yesterday they were yet to release the postmortem report to his family. “The postmortem has been done and the results have not yet been released. The body has been released to his family. I don’t know when the burial will take place,” Ms Namaye said yesterday. Col. Muzoora has reportedly been living in South Africa and his wife Vasta said she last talked with her husband early this month telling him about the plan to baptise their last born child. It is also reported that Mr Museveni met Col. Muzoora while on a State visit to South Africa and asked the deceased to return home.

PRA target

It is also said the President allowed him to rejoin UPDF since he did not commit any crime but only had operational differences with then army commander late Maj. Gen. James Kazini. The allegations that he met Mr Museveni, reportedly earned him enemies within the shadowy PRA ranks with his colleagues believing he could have leaked secrets. PRA was also alleged to have links to FDC leader Dr Kizza Besigye, which the opposition claims was a concoction by the government to demonise the opposition and scare away its would-be supporters.

<fieldset>
<legend align="center">More News on allAfrica.com</legend>
</fieldset>

AllAfrica – All the Time

See the original article here:
Who Killed Muzoora?

Richard Wanambwa 30 May 2011 Kampala — The death of Col.
