Oshakati — In light of record unemployment, two aspiring young and industrious entrepreneurs recently initiated a project, Northern Landscape Cleaning Project, to create jobs for fellow unemployed youths and orphans in the Oshana Region.

The duo is appealing to the business sector for help to make their job creation project a reality.

The two believe that their project, if given the necessary assistance, would help “transform job seekers into job providers” and by so doing reduce the high employment rate in the country.

Nathanael Silvanus (27) and his partner, Matheus Akwenye Matheus (22), conducted an assessment survey in the Oshana Region in 2010 and found that orphans were living under deplorable conditions and that they have to do something to address their plight.

“As we noted the high unemployment rate among the youth and the harsh conditions of the orphans in our region, we knew we had to do something to make their lives better. We are confident that if are supported, we will drastically reduce the high unemployment rate,” said Silvanus. “That is when we decided to ponder the establishment of the Northern Landscape Cleaning Project.”

According to the duo, the project would not only create employment but also keep criminals off the streets.

The project recently received assurance of support from the Ministry of Trade and Industry and their request for assistance has been forwarded to the Ministerial Equipment Aid Scheme Committee for consideration.

Silvanus told New Era that the envisaged project would engage in tree planting, cutting trees and shrubs, removal of unwanted grass as well general cleaning work. They would also venture into introducing basic education at a later stage.

“As we realized and saw that during the rainy season the grass and shrubs germinate and grow in Oshakati, we think it is important to introduce a cleaning project so that we can give a good impression and image to the visitors,” Silvanus said.

He appealed to businesses to support their idea, as it would also benefit them in the long run.

They would need equipments like spades, axes, overalls, lawnmowers, and wheel barrows. The project currently has 10 members.
