“Just finished training at Wembley Stadium….the pitch is in beautiful condition…. #oooff!” he tweeted.

“Looking forward to the game….like a little kid waiting for xmas day…hurry up + get this game ooooooon! Goodnight twitterverse!”

Michael Owen is unlikely to play a key-role in tonight’s game show-piece though is counting down the minutes until kick-off, he added: “Morning all. The waiting is over. Match day is here and the lads are in good form. Let’s hope it’s a day to remember.”

Wayne Rooney is relatively new to the world of Twitter although he also shared his excitement in the build-up, revealing: “Just going on a walk round the park to loosen the legs up for later. Soooooo excited.”
