Manchester United<\/a> centre-back Rio Ferdinand<\/a> has hailed team-mate Wayne Rooney<\/a> as one of the best players in the world and is convinced that the striker has the ability to trouble Barcelona<\/a> in the Champions League final.<\/p>\n

Rooney has hit top form in the second half of the season after having performed a sensational transfer U-turn back in October last year and Ferdinand insists that the entire United camp has “full belief” in the 25-year-old’s talents.<\/p>\n

“I think Wayne can be compared to the world’s best players,” said Ferdinand, as quoted by the Daily Mirror<\/em>.<\/p>\n

“Regardless of what happened last summer or what happens here, when we need Wayne to stand up and be counted he always does.<\/p>\n

“In the game against Manchester City this season, he scored one of best goals ever seen at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

“I don’t need to go through all the other games, because we have full belief in Wayne and his ability.<\/p>\n

“But we’ve got 100 per cent trust and belief in all of our players, not just Wayne. It’s not going to be down to one person to perform. It’s going to take a collective effort to win.”<\/p>\n

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was also full of praise for Rooney, insisting that the ex-Everton front man is more mature than he was back in 2009, when the Old Trafford outfit were beaten by Pep Guardiola’s side in the Champions League final.<\/p>\n

“We have players who will like this stage,” said Ferguson. “Rooney is more mature than he was in 2009, as are other players too.<\/p>\n

“The experience of Rio and Nemanja Vidic will also be vital. Our progress in Europe this season gives us a really good chance.”<\/p>\n
