Arusha — WITH a day remaining before ‘Mwanza Heroes’ of Mwanza and Mbeya’s ‘Mapinduzi Stars’ clash in the final of the 2011 Kili Taifa Cup, the match excitement has gained thrust.

Regional Commissioners of Mwanza and Mbeya each bragged that his team will outwit the other to emerge victorious in the much awaited final that will take place at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Memorial Stadium here.

Mwanza RC Abbas Kandoro praised his team, saying he was sure that he will lay his hands on the silverware.

“I’ll not travel to Arusha to attend the final match but will certainly follow the match closely. I’ll also send a powerful regional representation in Arusha to encourage our team win the match and lift the trophy,” said Kandoro.

Kandoro remained optimistic of Mwanza’s chances to lift the trophy, but said the quality and spirit of players will prove a decisive factor.

On his part Mbeya RC John Mwakipesile also showered praises on ‘Mapinduzi Stars’ lads, saying they made the region proud after marching into the final. He will travel to Arusha to support his team.

Another thrilling part of the match will definitely be a race for the ‘Golden Boot’ award between tournament’s leading scorer Mbeya’s Gaudence Mwaikimba with seven goals and Jerryson Tegete of Mwanza Heores who has so far netted six goals. The ‘Golden Boot’ award winner will take home 2m/-.

To reach the final, Mbeya claimed a hard fought 2-1 win over Kagera on Wednesday, while Mwanza shocked pre- tournament favourites Ilala by the dame goal margin the previous day.

Ilala who dethroned defending champions Singida’s Kindai Shooting Stars’ 3-0 in the quartfinals but were later dismissed by Mwanza in the semis, will confront Kagera in the third place play off at the same venue on Friday.

The tournament sponsors Tanzania Bweweries Limited (TBL) through its Kilimanjaro Beer flagship has set aside 40m/- for the winner, while the first and second runners up will take home 20m/- and 10m/- respectively. The tournament is co-ordinated by Executive Solutions.
