A section of New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates in the Ashanti Region have suggested that the party’s flagbearer, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, and the National Executive Council consider Mr. John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen as the flagbearer’s running mate for the presidential election in 2012.<\/p>\n
The suggestion by the delegates comes shortly after successful constituency primaries across the country.<\/p>\n
The views of some of the delegates sampled by the Chronicle shortly after the tour of the region by the flagbearer recently, indicated that Mr. Kyerematen, also known as Alan Cash, was suitable to partner the flag bearer to consolidate the support base of the party, and ensure a massive win in the impending elections.<\/p>\n
According to them, the choice of the former Minister of Trade and Industries would further strengthen party unity, saying the option of choosing a running mate from the Northern part of the country was no longer applicable and tenable.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlan has strong support in the North and can cater for the aspirations of the people in the three Northern regions and beyond,\u201d it was argued, explaining that Nana Akufo Addo and Alan Cash are by all standards the two popular names in the party, which can win votes.<\/p>\n
The delegates mentioned that besides being marketable, his credibility trait made Mr. Kyerematen, a founding father of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), appealing to the electorate.<\/p>\n
\u201cHis (Kyerematen) business sense and know-how has earned him the much envied accolade of ‘Cash Man’, stands tall for his contributions to the EMPRETEC success story,\u201d they said, and added that for making over 70% of all successful businessmen in the country, an Akufo Addo-led government, in partnership with Kyerematen would ensure functional finances, since he is a whole school of finance administration, they said.<\/p>\n
They believed Alan Kyerematen could deliver in this area, because he had been able to reach all Africa by ‘Enterprise Africa’, instituted by the UNDP and DFID for private Sector Development in Africa.<\/p>\n
The delegates were of the view that if Ms Ellen Sirleaf Johnson, Kyerematen’s colleague-in-service, has done it in Liberia, then he could use his expertise to help prop up an NPP government under Nana Addo.<\/p>\n
They also said Kyerematen was known in Africa, Europe and in the United States of America, where he once served as Ghana’s Ambassador.<\/p>\n

Referring to the success story of the President’s Special Initiative (PSI), which influenced the United States Government to institute the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) to help promote Africa’s export trade with the United States, the delegates said Alan Cash had the necessary capacity, spirit, and know-how, to contribute to the country’s economic and political growth.<\/p>\n
Touching on his background, his admirers said Alan Kyerematen was one person who by birth, is rooted in Elmina in the Central Region through his mother, who in turn partly comes from the royal house of Ejisu, in the Ashanti Region.<\/p>\n
Alan speaks flawless Fante, and is maternally a Fante. Paternally he is Ashanti with roots in Bompata in Asante Akyem.<\/p>\n
He is at home in Akyem Abuakwa, where his wife, Nee Patricia Kingsley Nyinah hails from, an indication that \u201cAlan’s constituents cut across region and tribal barriers, besides being endowed with a linguistic flare in many local and international languages, including French.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is not only a man of political and economic business, but flawless in the business of finance and politics as well,\u201d they argued.<\/p>\n
From the foregone background, the delegates say the party stands to immensely benefit from a Nana Addo Kyerematen pairing.<\/p>\n
As a result, the delegates, who claim they were expressing the sentiments of delegates across the country, have, on condition of anonymity, urged the leadership of the NPP, as well as the National Executive Council and the Council of Elders to understand the calamitous effect of the party’s electoral defeat in the last general elections, and work to political power in 2012.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
