{"id":431207,"date":"2011-05-27T08:25:08","date_gmt":"2011-05-27T08:25:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/05\/27\/ictr-to-deliver-judgment-in-butare-trial\/"},"modified":"2011-05-27T08:25:08","modified_gmt":"2011-05-27T08:25:08","slug":"ictr-to-deliver-judgment-in-butare-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/05\/27\/ictr-to-deliver-judgment-in-butare-trial\/","title":{"rendered":"ICTR to Deliver Judgment in &#8216;Butare&#8217; Trial"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"38.5552050473\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newtimes.co.rw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/img\/static\/publishers\/minibanners\/newtimes180.jpg\" alt=\"The New Times (Kigali)\" title=\"Visit The New Times (Kigali)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gashegu Muramira<\/p>\n<p>27 May 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>Arusha \u2014 The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) will, next month, deliver a judgment in the longest joint trial of six suspects, including former Women and Family Affairs Minister, Pauline Nyiramasuhuko.<\/p>\n<p>The judgement, which comes after ten years, involves; Ars\u00e8ne Shalom Ntahobali, Nyiramasuhuko&#8217;s son and a former interahamwe militia leader, and Alphonse Nteziryayo, a former Commanding Officer of the Military Police.<\/p>\n<p>Others are; former Prefect of Butare, Sylvain Nsabimana, former Bourgmestre of Muganza commune, Elie Ndayambaje, and Joseph Kanyabatshi, former Bourgmestre of Ngoma.<\/p>\n<p>Nyiramasuko is the first woman ever to be charged with Genocide by an international court. She is accused of inciting men to rape women during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Instead of protecting the families as her ministry stipulates, she decided to exterminate the families,&#8221; Prosecutor Holo Makwaia said during one of her submissions.
