Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has said that his administration plans to raise the power supply of the Lagos Island Power plant to 114 megawatts in the next two years.<\/p>\n

Fashola added that the state has completed power audit for Shomolu area of the state, described as the printing capital of Nigeria and currently shopping for a 4000 square metres space to set up the Shomolu Power Station, aimed at meeting the power needs of the printing press and residents.<\/p>\n

Fashola made the revelation late Wednesday evening at the commissioning of the 10 megawatts power station in Lagos Island.<\/p>\n

According to the governor, when fully installed,\u00a0 it will supply power to all business located in the island and residential premises and in the process, eliminate generators and noise from the island unlike the 10 megawatts, which is limited to government installations and 20 streets.<\/p>\n

The governor explained that the state was currently carrying out a power audit of Matori Industrial Estate to determine the power need of businesses in the area. On the 10 megawatts power station, the governor said that commissioning\u00a0 will automatically put out of use a minimum of 30 diesel generating sets and in the process eliminate noise and carbon monoxide.<\/p>\n

He explained that the facility built to the highest thermal operating plant standard will provide 24 hours lights to government facilities within the Island and 20 streets.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
