The decision by national coach, Samson Siasia to drop Osaze Odemwingie from the Super Eagles billed to confront the Argentina and Ethiopian national teams is tearing apart the renowned football family of Disu.

Two prominent members of the family, who are also national football personalities are holding opposing views in their reaction to Siasia’s sensational decision which has triggered a lot of debate beyond the football community. The older of the Disus, Tunde, an ex international and former national team coach, said Siasia should have acted with some restraint in the handling of the Odemwingie issue.

Disu said keeping the West Brom goal merchant out of those crucial games should have been Siasia’s last option.

He told LEADERSHIP SPORTS in an exclusive chat “What is not exactly clear now was why Siasia decided to drop the player, was it because of his comments on the social network site or that he broke camp rules.

But for whatever reason, Siasia should have considered other ways of discipline instead of dropping the player from the squad”. The older Disu emphasized the need for discipline in any team but noted that there were a variety of ways to instill discipline in players apart from outright sack from the team.

“The success of a team derives largely from the level of discipline in that team, but there are several ways to instill discipline, you can subject the player to some forms of sanction without dropping him from the team”.

As to the position of the coach in the team, Disu, who is the Technical Director of the Lagos Junior League said there was no dispute that the coach was the man in charge “The coach is the supremo of the team and should see himself as the father of the players and relate with them in that manner”

But the younger Disu, Tajudeen, who also is an ex international and former general manager of Gateway International, Abeokuta, disagreed insisting that Siasia took the right step which he, Tajudeen could have taken in similar situation. Taju, a defender in his playing days and current coach in the BRF Talent Hunt in Lagos, argued that the team could have collapsed if Siasia had not taken that step to drop Odemwingie.
