Incidentally, the medium used to reach Ghanaians, were the ever-pliant state-run daily newspapers, the Daily Graphic and Ghanaian Times.

Yesterday, the two newspapers published a briefing by Mr. Koku Anyidoho, Communications Director at the Presidency. The import of the briefing was that it was President Atta Mills who persuaded Paul Yao N’Dre, Chairman of the Constitutional Council of La Cote d’Ivoire, who had arrived in Ghana to seek refuge, to return to Cote d’Ivoire in order to swear in Alassane Ouatarra as President.

If Paul Yao N’Dre had not agreed to return, the new President of La Cote d’Ivoire, we are made to believe, would not have been sworn into office. The Chronicle is disturbed about the way the two state-owned newspapers are being used of late. It is becoming clearer by the day that the Ghanaian Times and the Daily Graphic are echoing His Master’s Voice, rather than the wishes of the people.

We are also worried about the way information has become more of a propaganda tool than evidence of the happenings at the seat of Government. In the first place, how did the President of the Republic of Ghana learn about the intention of Mr. N’Dre to seek refuge in the country? Was he here at the invitation of the President of Ghana, as a colleague?

Many questions beg for answers in the kind of information deliberately being thrown out to create the impression that our ‘Man of God’ was in his supernatural element. The Chronicle is not amused by the impression being deliberately created that without a word from Prof. Mills, Cote d’Ivoire would not have got a Constitutional President in Alassane Ouatarra. We do not buy the notion that Cote d’Ivoire could not have sworn in its Constitutional President without N’Dre agreeing to return on the word of the President. Even without Paul Yao N’Dre, Cote d’Ivoire would still have found a way of swearing in their new head of state.

In all this cheap propaganda, the Castle information outfit ought to know that Ghanaians know of attempts by previous administrations – during the time that ex-President Jerry John Rawlings was head of state of this Republic and during the days of John Agyekum Kufuor – to broker peace in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Cote d’Ivoire, when the three countries were mired in very serious civil wars.

It is unfortunate, that the Presidential Communication outfit is beginning to take on a propaganda tool, rather than a source of serious information for discourse. Koku Anyidoho is gradually bringing the Office of the President into disrepute.

In making this assertion, The Chronicle is minded by the briefing Mr. Anyidoho gave the media on the return of President Atta Mills from Switzerland in August 2010, at which the Director of Communications at Government House told the media that FIFA President Sepp Blatter had given the President of Ghana a blank cheque to investigate the Ghana Football Association.

It turned out that the information sold to the Ghanaian media by the Castle Information Bureau was palpably false.

The Chronicle is unable to conjecture how the President feels when basic information is deliberately skewed by the Director of Communications in an attempt to deal with internal political fallout, rather than promote the Presidency. Someone should call the Information Director to order!

Koku Anyiodoho is making a laughing stock out of the Castle. It is time someone called him to order.

<fieldset>
<legend align="center">More News on allAfrica.com</legend>
</fieldset>

AllAfrica – All the Time

View original post here:
When Castle Information is Skewed

25 May 2011 editorial Yesterday, The Chronicle commented on a diplomatic nicety by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon that was given a political twist to make it look like President John Evans Atta Mills is the best thing ever to happen to this country.
