{"id":430423,"date":"2011-05-26T02:16:21","date_gmt":"2011-05-26T02:16:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/05\/26\/nelson-mandela-foundation-pays-tribute-to-goldreich\/"},"modified":"2011-05-26T02:16:21","modified_gmt":"2011-05-26T02:16:21","slug":"nelson-mandela-foundation-pays-tribute-to-goldreich","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/05\/26\/nelson-mandela-foundation-pays-tribute-to-goldreich\/","title":{"rendered":"Nelson Mandela Foundation Pays Tribute to Goldreich"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"32.5797331639\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.buanews.gov.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BuaNews<\/a> (Tshwane)<\/p>\n<p>25 May 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>Pretoria \u2014 The Nelson Mandela Foundation has extended its condolences to the family and friends of anti-apartheid activist Arthur Goldreich, who died on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Goldreich and his family provided refuge at their home on Liliesleaf Farm in Rivonia, to Nelson Mandela and other freedom fighters in 1961,&#8221; the Foundation&#8217;s Chief Executive Achmat Dangor said.<\/p>\n<p>Goldreich, 82, an artist and designer who created sets for the musical King Kong, was also a political activist who became a member of the Umkhonto weSizwe &#8211; the armed wing of the ANC.<\/p>\n<p>He was among those arrested on the farm in July 1963 in the Rivonia Raid.<\/p>\n<p>Goldreich, along with Harold Wolpe, Mosie Moola and Abdulhay Jassat escaped from custody at Marshall Square Police Station in Johannesburg on August 1963. He moved to Israel the following year.<\/p>\n<p>During his speech from the dock on 20 April 1964 in the Rivonia Trial, Mandela said: &#8220;Whilst staying at Liliesleaf farm, I frequently visited Arthur Goldreich in the main house and he also paid me visits in my room.
