Malawian Chauncy Master, a middle distance runner, will try his luck against Kenyan running machines in the 800m and 1,500m.

Master, who competed at the 2008 Olympic Games but failed to progress to the next round, specializes in 1,500m with a personal best time of 3:42.73. He said he hopes to claim a podium finish despite racing against the country’s globe-trotting athletes,

Chauncy said he will use the Kamariny meeting as a build-up for the World Championships and the All Africa Games. “I am preparing for the Daegu championships and the 800m will help me build my speed for my 1500m speciality,” Chauncy said.

Zambia’s Tony Wamulwa also hopes to make the podium in the 5,000m. ” I realise it is not going to be easy for me in the event considering most Kenyans will be chasing the qualifying times but I feel I am up to the challenge and I can keep up with the high pace,” he added.

Wamulwa placed 9th at the 2007 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Mombasa. He was among the men’s 5,000m finalist at the 2010 African athletic Championships in Nairobi and has a personal best of 13.25.58. “I have trained well and I don’t expect any easy battle. Everyone is focusing on the All Africa Games and world Championships and the competition has already starting tightening here. You know athletics is serious business for Kenyan and to achieve anything you have to run against them and learn the ropes,” he said.

Wamulwa arrived in the country a month ago and he is expected to end a three months training stint in August, just before the World Championships in Daegu, Korea.

Other foreign athletes expected at Kamariny are Moussa Camara of Mali, Burundi’s Ndiho Vianney of Burundi and counterpart Saverin Sahinkuye of Burundi. Camara and Sahinkuye will race in 800m while Vianney will battle it out in the 5,000m.

Dilkhushi Champika of Sri Lanka will spice up the women’s 1,500m in preparation for the World Military Games in Brazil later this year. She has a personal best time of 4.22 in 1,500m. IAAF World Championships will be held in Daegu, South Korea from August 27 to September 4 while the All Africa Games is scheduled for September 3-18 in Maputo, Mozambique.

<fieldset>
<legend align="center">More News on allAfrica.com</legend>
</fieldset>

AllAfrica – All the Time

Follow this link:
Kenya: Foreign Legion for Eldoret Athletics Association Meeting

Nairobi Star (Nairobi) Stanley Magut 25 May 2011 FOREIGN Athletes from Kip Keino High Performance Training Centre are expected to add international flavour on the final AK/ National Bank meeting scheduled to start on Friday at Kamariny Stadium.

["post-430413","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.0 -
