Sunmonu told energy correspondents in Lagos that the Federal Government amnesty programme had brought relative peace to Niger Delta region.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, peace in the region has increased oil production by the various oil companies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore the amnesty, no oil company can access its oil fields and facilities offshore. But the amnesty programme has also given us the opportunities to access these facilities and improve significantly on our environmental performances.<\/p>\n<p>Shell can now inspect facilities and clean up oil spills in the facilities, which have been a tremendously help in terms of business performance and environmental performances. \u201cWe hope that the amnesty programme will be sustained so that there will be peace and stability in the Niger Delta,\u201d Sunmonu said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the current peace and increased oil production in the region were capable of generating jobs for youths in the area. Sunmonu said that there was no truth in the insinuation that Shell was selling some of its oil blocks because of community-related problems.<\/p>\n<p>Sunmonu, who is the Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC), said that Shell sold oil blocks to indigenous firms to aid the Federal Government\u201ds local content initiative. He said that Shell, as an international oil company now focused on high capital projects rather than smaller oil rigs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Comments are moderated.
