Counsels to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP\u00a0 and the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, at the Election Petitions Tribunal have continued to trade words over the qualifications of the candidates that contested in the just concluded general elections and the duty of the tribunal.<\/p>\n

Hearing in the petitions by some of the candidates that lost the April polls continued Wednesday, but counsel to the about ten ACN candidates Mr. Henry Njoku in an interview after the adjournment of the cases, claimed that the PDP as a party did not present any candidate in the election, hence those who contested the election on the umbrella of the party were not qualified to stand for the election.<\/p>\n

He said that it is the prayer of the party to declare the result that produced the PDP candidates as winners null and void as they were allegedly not qualified at the time to contest the elections and also declare the ACN candidates as the winners of the election.<\/p>\n

Apart from the issue of qualification, the ACN counsel told\u00a0 Vanguard<\/em> that the election was marred by malpractices and that the party has enough evidence to prove the matter at the tribunal.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll PDP candidates were not qualified to run the just April elections and we are canvassing it before the tribunal, we want the tribunal to make a pronouncement on that. We are very hopeful that we are going to succeed. We have absolute confidence in this tribunal.<\/p>\n

\u201cPDP did not sponsor any candidates in the just concluded elections in the state. It is only a political party that sponsor candidate, PDP as a party did not sponsor any candidate in the election\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

But Counsel to some of the PDP members who are respondents in the matters, Mr. Mba Ukweni said that the issue of qualification of his clients in the election was a party affair and that the tribunal was set up for post election matters and not pre-election matters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
