{"id":429920,"date":"2011-05-25T12:02:26","date_gmt":"2011-05-25T12:02:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/05\/25\/government-acts-timeously-on-dual-citizenship-applications-%e2%80%93-kunbuor\/"},"modified":"2011-05-25T12:02:26","modified_gmt":"2011-05-25T12:02:26","slug":"government-acts-timeously-on-dual-citizenship-applications-kunbuor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/05\/25\/government-acts-timeously-on-dual-citizenship-applications-kunbuor\/","title":{"rendered":"Government acts timeously on dual Citizenship applications \u2013 Kunbuor"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"64.9699421965\">\n<p>You Are Here: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ghanabusinessnews.com\">Home<\/a> \u00bb <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ghanabusinessnews.com\/category\/general-news\/\" title=\"View all posts in General News\" rel=\"category tag\">General News<\/a> \u00bb Government acts timeously on dual Citizenship applications \u2013 Kunbuor<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span>Page last updated at Wednesday, May 25, 2011 12:12 PM \/\/ <\/span><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ghanabusinessnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Dr.-Kumbuor2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-44106\" title=\"Dr. Kumbuor2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanabusinessnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Dr.-Kumbuor2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"248\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Benjamin Kunbuor<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Dual citizenship applications\u00a0received by Government are timeously dealt with when relevant documents are submitted\u00a0for processing, Dr Benjamin Kunbuor, Minister for Interior told Parliament on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>He said when the applicant failed to provide the correct documentation the Ministry normally contacted the applicants for rectification in order to fast track the processing.<\/p>\n<p>Dr\u00a0Kunbuor said this when he\u00a0answered questions on the floor of Parliament about why it takes more than six months for dual citizenship applications to be processed.<\/p>\n<p>He said some of the delays were due to the fact that the applicants were not resident in Ghana, adding that in that case it took longer time for the Ministry to get a reply from them to enable it to work on their applications.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Kunbuor said in some instances the applicants failed to respond on time or to provide the needed information to carry on the process.<\/p>\n<p>He said where reliable contact numbers were not provided by applicants, the Ministry apart from writing had to wait on applicants to follow up on their applications to be able to request for the needed documentation.
