LAGOS\u00a0 \u2013 A Lagos lawyer, Mr. Malachy Ugwummadu, has challenged the propriety of the directive by the Ministry of Police Affairs and the Inspector-General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, restraining Nigerians from using tinted glasses on their vehicles.<\/p>\n

Ugwummadu, is challenging the directive on the ground that those exempted are highly- placed public office holders in the political arrangement of the country,\u00a0 who are entitled to huge monthly security votes with which they can provide maximum security for themselves and members of their families.<\/p>\n

The plaintiff\u00a0 is insisting in the suit that the directive was discriminatory and a total disregard to the defenceless, vulnerable and pre-disposed citizens of this country.<\/p>\n

According to him, \u201cthe ordinary Nigerians,\u00a0 who are not exempted from the ban lacked any form of security services and guaranty by the government apart from the minimal security and self- safety measures affordable to them like the use of tinted glasses to shield them from the preying eyes of\u00a0 the teeming numbers of unemployed youths whose only means of livelihood are crimes and criminalities.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that it was common knowledge that countless\u00a0 number of serious security breaches resulting in the loss of innocent lives had taken place without any clue by the security agencies.<\/p>\n

Defendants in the suit are\u00a0 Minister of Police Affairs, Inspector-General of Police and the Federal Minister of Justice and Attorney- General, Mohammed Bello Adoke, SAN.<\/p>\n

He is praying the court to\u00a0 declare that the decision of the defendants\u00a0 to exempt just a few political office holders on the directive, is illegal and a violation of Sections 1 (2) of the MotorVehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glasses) Act, Cap M21 and Sections 41 and 42 (1) (a) (b) of the Constitution.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
