What a long way Jedward have come. <\/p>\n

The wacky Irish pop duo – once targeted by a Facebook hate group with more than 100,000 fans – yesterday performed for Barack Obama, who gave their hairstyles the presidential thumbs up.<\/p>\n

The twins performed their Eurovision song Lipstick for the US Commander-in-Chief and the First Lady Michelle Obama on College Green in Dublin.<\/p>\n

Afterwards they tweeted that not only was their song a hit with the U.S leader, but their quiffed hair, too.<\/p>\n

The twins, real names John and Edward Grimes, rose to fame on hit ITV show The X Factor in 2009, coming sixth overall \u2013 but they definitely had a love-hate relationship with viewers and the judges.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

When music mogul Simon Cowell first heard the pair he described them as \u2018not very good and incredibly annoying\u2019 and a Facebook group was set up to campaign to have them kicked off.<\/p>\n

The main criticism levelled at the duo was that they couldn\u2019t sing in tune.<\/p>\n

Jedward would have proved a tough act to follow – even for the U.S President<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

However, Jedward, who are managed by former X Factor judge Louis Walsh, simply went from strength to strength.<\/p>\n

Their rendition of Lipstick on Eurovision proved remarkably popular, resulting in them coming eighth overall and the song storming the charts in Germany, Sweden and Austria.<\/p>\n

Now they can claim one of the ultimate accolades \u2013 performing for the U.S President and his wife.<\/p>\n

Before the VIP gig, which preceded a speech by President Obama, they issued a typically zany quote, telling the BBC: \u2018It’s an honour to perform for the most famous man in the world, after Simon Cowell that is.\u2019<\/p>\n

Ear we go: Jedward put their palms on the side of their heads as part of their energetic Lipstick routine<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

But afterwards the pair could not conceal their delight at having met Mr and Mrs Obama, taking to their Twitter account to explain what they talked about with them.<\/p>\n

They tweeted: \u2018We Performed for President Barrack Obama he said thank you to us it was a lot of fun.<\/p>\n

\u2018It was so cool that @BarackObama liked our Hair! Our hair has been approved by the Biggest person ever. He wanted to know what Jedward meant! We said I’m John and I’m Edward together we are Jedward!<\/p>\n

\u2018We told Michelle Obama we saw her on loads of magazines like O Magazine and she looked really cool! And she said ahh thanks.<\/p>\n

\u2018We were talking to @BarackObama about the Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus.\u2019<\/p>\n
