By\u00a0 GABRIEL ENOGHOLASE<\/strong><\/p>\n

BENIN \u2013 BUT for the timely intervention of his colleagues, a journalist with the Dague Broadcasting Corporation, DBN, would have been killed by a Police Corporal, identified as Sumbo Oruns, who threatened to shoot him in Benin, yesterday.<\/p>\n

Trouble was said to have started when the journalist, Paul Ezenwa, attached to the Government House, Benin, was driving to the\u00a0 Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ,\u00a0 Press Centre, Benin,\u00a0 for an assignment.<\/p>\n

Narrating his ordeal, Ezenwa said his car had a fault on the way, forcing the vehicle to stop. He said he tried to re-start the car when the policeman attached to the Office of the Head of Service, Government House, muttered abusive words to which he replied.<\/p>\n

He explained that the vehicle conveying the policeman later overtook his car and he then proceeded to the NUJ Centre, unknown to him,\u00a0 the policeman\u00a0 was trailing him.<\/p>\n

As he tried to park his car at the NUJ premises,\u00a0 the policeman, who had followed him, alighted from his car marked ED 14 HOI, held his gun and forcefully dragged him down from his car, tearing his shirt in the process.<\/p>\n

It was the commotion that attracted the attention of other journalists in the premises.<\/p>\n

The threat by the policeman to kill Ezenwa, incensed other journalists, who immediately deflated his car tyres and contacted his boss, who raced down to the NUJ Centre to pacify him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
