ABUJA \u2013 FORMER Governor of Enugu State, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani was, Tuesday, re-arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Abuja over fresh allegations of\u00a0 subversion of justice in the corruption charges brought against him by some human rights organisations\u00a0 in the state.<\/p>\n

The anti-graft agency plans to arraign him at the Federal High Court, Enugu on Thursday, an official of the commission said last night.<\/p>\n

Senator Nnamani, who had been on trial at the Federal High Court, Lagos, since he left office as governor in 2007, sought re-election into the Senate to represent Enugu East Senatorial Zone, but lost to the PDP candidate.<\/p>\n

He had been granted bail after he was arraigned in Lagos.<\/p>\n

Confirming the former governor\u2019s arrest,\u00a0 EFCC\u2019s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Babafemi, said the arrest was based on fresh petitions received by the commission, stressing that he was not arraigned on previous allegations.<\/p>\n

Babafemi said: \u201cYes we arrested him this afternoon. If he had been arraigned before, he will not be arraigned again on those allegations. But this is based on fresh petitions against him. That will certainly be done in Enugu.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was learnt that Nnamani\u2019s fresh\u00a0 arrest followed a petition to\u00a0 President Goodluck Jonathan dated May 13 by Tropical Watch, Civil Liberties Organisation and Coalition Against Corruption in Enugu State.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
