DESPITE the suit instituted against the joint ownership of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, by the Osun State Government,\u00a0 outgoing Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, in less than four days to the expiration of his tenure, has revoked the law that recognises the joint ownership of the institution.<\/p>\n

Already, the governor has entered it into the Oyo State Gazette. According to the gazette which was dated May 16 marked 09 and Vol. 36, Oyo State is now the sole owner of the institution.<\/p>\n

Governor Alao-Akala has has since signed the amended law. Sections 26 and 27 of the amended law state \u201cthe university is deemed to be solely owned by the Oyo state as from December 31 2010. Any rules, convention or practice in existence in respect of the joint ownership of the university is hereby revoked and shall cease to have validity or force of law with effect from December 31, 2010.<\/p>\n

The issue of the joint ownership has been a tug of war between the two states culminating in the legal action which was then instituted by the former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola.<\/p>\n

The National University Commission had to threaten the two states that it would revoke the license if they failed to resolved it. It then set up a committee to work on the issue.<\/p>\n

Governor Akala during the commissioning of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital and College of Medicine and Health Sciences in Ogbomoso said, \u201cLAUTECH Teaching Hospital, with the projects being commissioned would become the watershed for the study of medicine and health sciences in Nigeria\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
