{"id":429317,"date":"2011-05-24T11:09:17","date_gmt":"2011-05-24T11:09:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/05\/24\/nigeria-parallel-football-body-is-confusion-toro\/"},"modified":"2011-05-24T11:09:17","modified_gmt":"2011-05-24T11:09:17","slug":"nigeria-parallel-football-body-is-confusion-toro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/05\/24\/nigeria-parallel-football-body-is-confusion-toro\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria: Parallel Football Body is Confusion -Toro"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"44.6050207278\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailytrust.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/img\/static\/publishers\/minibanners\/dailytrust180.jpg\" alt=\"Daily Trust (Abuja)\" title=\"Visit Daily Trust (Abuja)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>David Ngobua<\/p>\n<p>24 May 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>Former Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) Alhaji Ahmed Sani Toro has said attempts by a group of Nigerians to set up a parallel football ruling body in the country will surely breed more confusion as he said FIFA will not hesitate to ban Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>A group led by Mr. Jarret Tenebe has begun moves to replace the present Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) under Alhaji Aminu Maigari with a new Nigeria Football Association (NFA) which is recognized by the country&#8217;s constitution.<\/p>\n<p>The inauguration of the new NFA which was billed for last Saturday at the Mediterranean recreational ground in Abuja could not hold as men of the State Security Service aborted the event.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Trustsports yesterday, the former NFA scribe said urgent steps should be taken by the appropriate authorities to curb the menace in the bud otherwise the fragile sanity in the country&#8217;s football would varnish into thin air.<\/p>\n<p>He said a parallel football body will certainly contravene FIFA statues and the international body would not delay in applying the appropriate sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>Toro explained that even as the image of the country&#8217;s football has suffered several setbacks in the eyes of FIFA, the organization still retains confidence in some Nigerians by allowing them to hold positions on its committees.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed fear that if something urgent is not done about the &#8216;new NFA&#8217;, there are chances that some of them who are trusted and used by FIFA for important assignments may be blacklisted.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;I strongly condemn what is happening because it is not good for Nigerian football. We have had so many problems already and FIFA will not take it kindly with us. What we are going to witness will not augur well for our football.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It may interest you to know that despite our numerous problems, FIFA still believes in some of us. We are given positions of responsibility but what is happening now will make nonsense of everything. It will ridicule us in the eyes of the world&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The former Bauchi State commissioner of sports called on the sports minister to quickly bring the warring factions together for amicable resolution of the problem.<\/p>\n<p>He said even if they have a case against NFF, the approach being adopted by the group is wrong and it will cause Nigeria more harm than good.<\/p>\n<p>He added: &#8220;I urge the minister of sports to bring the concerned parties together for discussions. He should find a way of resolving the issues amicably.
