The military have adopted proactive means to ward off security threat in Kano as they were observed patrolling major streets, which are flashpoints in the state capital.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our correspondent on Sunday observed some heavily armed soldiers in patrol vehicles going round the metropolis.<\/span><\/p>\n

Recent security reports had indicated that terrorists planned to launch reprisal attacks on some key states in the north, including Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Bauchi, Borno, Plateau over the killing of Al-Qaeda leader, Osama bin Laden.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some heavily armed soldiers were sighted aboard a Toyota Hilux van in the Sabongari area of the city, which is predominantly occupied by non-indigenes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another group of soldiers was seen patrolling the city centre, while some regular policemen manned strategic locations.<\/span><\/p>\n

The renewed security presence on the streets did not, however, instil fear or panic in residents who went about their normal businesses and other engagements.<\/span><\/p>\n

Petrol stations, shops, restaurants and drinking bars opened for business.<\/span><\/p>\n

Few days ago, Kano was among some northern states, where violent protest broke out following after the presidential election on April 26.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
