LAGOS-President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, unveiled his transformation agenda for the economy, promising to be at the driving seat of the implementation as the chairman of the National Economic team.<\/p>\n

He also said that there would be a comprehensive review of\u00a0 import subsidies and waivers granted to companies, adding that only companies expanding domestic production and creating jobs would be considered for such incentives.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, renown Professor of Economics, Professor Jeffrey Sachs, has identified rural and\u00a0 urban integration, infrastructure and family planning as the critical factors to the transformation of the nation\u2019s economy and its emergence as one of the top 20 economies in the world.<\/p>\n

Speaking at an interactive session with the business community in Lagos, President Jonathan said the transformation agenda\u00a0 focuses\u00a0 on; development of value chains in agriculture and other sectors, creation of efficient power system, creation of efficient transport system, creation of decent jobs, growing and diversifying domestic production and export, delivering an accessible and efficient health system.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will indirectly chair the economic team which would be made up of key players in government and outside government and would meet from time to time.Frequently, businesses request for subsidies and waivers to import a wide range of products many of which could be produced locally with some investment and government incentives,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
