Oscar De La Hoya says he’s always “met challenges head-on” and that his latest one “is no different.”<\/p>\n

The 37-year-old former boxing great, who was once named to PEOPLE’s Most Beautiful list, spoke of his approach to adversity following a report that he entered rehab for substance abuse.<\/p>\n

Although he didn’t specifically confirm the report over the weekend by TMZ,<\/a> he issued a statement saying that he has sought help.<\/p>\n

“After doing an honest evaluation of myself, I recognize that there are certain issues that I need to work on,” he tells the Web site. “Like everyone, I have my flaws, and I do not want to be one of those people that is afraid to admit and address those flaws.”<\/p>\n

He adds, “I am confident that with the support of my family and friends, I will become a stronger, healthier person.” <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
