Arsene Wenger<\/a> has spoken of his frustration and disappointment with Arsenal<\/a>‘s fourth place finish this season, but urged that supporters of the club, already extremely unhappy at the club following a 6 per cent rise in season ticket prices, not to overreact.<\/p>\n

“A fourth place finish is disappointing because three weeks ago we were in a position to win the league,” Wenger said in his final manager’s e-mail for the 2010-11 season.<\/p>\n

“We are frustrated and disappointed but we should not go overboard. We just have to rectify things in the areas that we need to improve.”<\/p>\n

The Gunners boss has also taken full responsibility for the club’s end of season demise, refusing to blame the players for what is now becoming an almost customary late-in-the-campaign-collapse.<\/p>\n

“I think I am responsible for the results and I am very disappointed. The players have had an outstanding attitude” added Wenger.<\/p>\n

“We have played 58 games but in the decisive moments, we have never had the whole team together. Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie, for example, have not played many games.”<\/p>\n

Arsenal supporters are known to be frustrated with both the club’s board and at Wenger, chanting for the Gunners boss to ‘spend some money’ following their 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage against Fulham yesterday, and the Frenchman insists that they will target squad additions this summer.<\/p>\n

“We will try to do the right thing this summer and we will try to buy the right players” continued the Gunners boss.<\/p>\n

“The amount of money is not always linked with the quality of the player but if we find the right players we will spend the money.<\/p>\n

“But we should not go overboard. Even if people say we have to spend money, we have to be realistic.<\/p>\n

“We cannot buy players for \u00a350 million and, even if we try to strengthen our team and spend money if needed, that is a fact.”
