Shehu<\/p>\n<p>20 May 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday warned governors-elect against any form of interference in the governance of their respective states, saying serving governors have the constitutional mandate to run the affairs of the state till May 29 handover date. Jonathan sounded the warning yesterday at the opening ceremony of a 3-day Nigeria Governors&#8217; Forum Induction Programme for the newly elected, re-elected and returning governors at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>He also warned the governors-elect against setting precedence that might haunt them when they leave office, noting that they must learn to respect others if they desired to be respected by their people and they must play politics without bitterness.<\/p>\n<p>The warning came against the background of reported attempt by some governors-elect to interfere in the governance of their states by giving orders seeking to counter the directives of incumbent governors whose tenures were yet to elapse.<\/p>\n<p>He said, &#8220;I have heard disturbing news of some governors-elect attempting to interfere in the governance of their states. The serving governors have the constitutional mandate to run the affairs of the states till 29th of May, 2011.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We must not set a precedence that will haunt us when we leave office. We are all indigenes of our states.
