A leading member of the Convention People\u2019s Party, Lawyer Kwame Jantuah says judges have no right to decide not to sit on cases just because corruption allegations have been leveled against them.<\/p>\n
He questioned the locus of some judges who refused to hear cases of some four blacklisted lawyers due to corruption allegations made against the judiciary by the said lawyers.<\/p>\n
According to Mr Jantuah, judges are obliged by the constitution to administer justice and therefore, have no reason whatsoever to turn away any case brought before them.<\/p>\n
According to him, it is their statutory duty which they are bound to undertake.<\/p>\n
Lawyer Kwame Jantuah speaking on Citi FM\u2019s Saturday political talk show, the \u201cBig Issue\u201d noted that the accused judges should rather focus on proving their innocence to the public rather than denying the people of Ghana their deserved justice.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is the people who gave them the power to administer justice on behalf of the country. If that is the case where is the locus of the judges to say they would not hear this case because of a criticism, I think that is wrong. They owe the people of Ghana to sit on the bench to hear cases.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe judges are being paid by the tax payer\u2019s money irrespective of whatever charge is held against them, they owe it to Ghanaians to hear the case.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat the judges should really do is to sit and say this is the allegation coming, that we are corrupt let us prove that we are not corrupt\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
