{"id":427990,"date":"2011-05-21T23:00:24","date_gmt":"2011-05-21T23:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/05\/21\/akpeki-faults-ogboru-campaign-over-delta-guber-poll\/"},"modified":"2011-05-21T23:00:24","modified_gmt":"2011-05-21T23:00:24","slug":"akpeki-faults-ogboru-campaign-over-delta-guber-poll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/05\/21\/akpeki-faults-ogboru-campaign-over-delta-guber-poll\/","title":{"rendered":"Akpeki faults Ogboru Campaign over Delta guber poll"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"120\">\n<p><strong>BY EMMA AMAIZE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>DELTA State Commissioner\u00a0 for Orientation and Communcation, Chief Paulinus Akpeki, last night,\u00a0 faulted the claim by the campaign outfit of the Democratic Peoples Party, DPP, gubernatorial candidate in the state,\u00a0 Chief Great Ogboru, that Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan was wrongfully\u00a0 declared winner of the April 26 gubernatorial election by INEC with 523, 793\u00a0 votes.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Akpeki, who is also the chairman of the\u00a0 Delta State PDP Campaign Organization, said that Uduaghan scored the\u00a0 highest number of 525, 793 lawful votes to be declared the winner\u00a0 of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).<\/p>\n<p>He\u00a0 explained that apart, from scoring the\u00a0 highest number of votes in the said election, Uduaghan also satisfied the\u00a0 mandatory votes in at least two third of\u00a0 the 25 local government areas\u00a0 as required by the electoral law.<\/p>\n<p>The commissioner dismissed the claim by the DPP, in\u00a0 its petition to the governorship election petition tribunal, that INEC\u00a0 wrongfully declared Uduaghan of the PDP as the winner of the poll with 525,793 votes against\u00a0 what the DPP referred to as his \u2018actual votes of 233,953.<\/p>\n<p>He described such claim by the DPP\u00a0 as reckless, baseless, unfounded and insultive to the sensibilities of\u00a0 Deltans and\u00a0 a figment of the imagination of\u00a0 the Ogboru Campaign Organization, which, according to him, is lacking in merit and can, therefore,\u00a0 not be substantiated with verifiable facts before the election\u00a0 tribunal.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0 Akpeki, \u201cthe\u00a0 logical hinge of the juvenile petition, reads, to wit, Dr. Uduaghan actually\u00a0 got 233, 953 votes as against the inherent\u00a0 phantom proposition that Chief\u00a0 Ogboru obtained 400, 058 votes from the enlightened people of Delta State,\u201d describing it as a farce and wishful conjecture\u00a0 intended to mislead and misinform.<\/p>\n<p>The commissioner\u00a0 said, \u201cAs if the\u00a0 fanciful conjuration of election statistics is\u00a0 the exclusive preserve of the\u00a0 Ogboru\u2019s Sunshine Organization, the\u00a0 author of the press statement, Mr.\u00a0 Efe Duku, went on to manufacture another\u00a0 piece of condescension, the kind of\u00a0 self-righteous delirium that afflicts self styled messiahs that the ever\u00a0 losing DPP rejected INEC\u2019s \u2018Greek gift\u2019 of 33, 776 votes purported to have\u00a0 been unlawfully added to what, the garrulous phantom box conjectured as DPP\u00a0 candidate\u2019s lawful votes\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>On the alleged allocation\u00a0 of votes by INEC, he maintained that it is totally condemnable, unacceptable,\u00a0 and reckless to conclude that the INEC\u00a0 arbitrarily allocated votes to Uduaghan in the election which has been\u00a0 adjudged as credible, free and fair by both local observers and international\u00a0 community.<\/p>\n<p>He likened such reckless\u00a0 vituperations of Ogboru\u2019s Sunshine Organization to the trait of a\u00a0 bad loser who will reprobate and approbate at will.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0 Director-General of the PDP Campaign Council picked holes with the notion of\u00a0 \u2018toxic votes\u2019 \u201cwhich is insulting to the sensibilities of riverine communities\u00a0 of Delta\u00a0 and should not be allowed to characterized the lexicon of\u00a0 competitive democratic politics in the state, but rather, the exclusive DPP\u00a0 fantasy and should be universally acknowledged as the ritually orchestrated\u00a0 imprimatur of electoral failure and naivety\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Comments are moderated.
