{"id":427878,"date":"2011-05-21T09:37:25","date_gmt":"2011-05-21T09:37:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/05\/21\/un-chief-condemns-attack-on-peacekeepers-in-abyei\/"},"modified":"2011-05-21T09:37:25","modified_gmt":"2011-05-21T09:37:25","slug":"un-chief-condemns-attack-on-peacekeepers-in-abyei","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/05\/21\/un-chief-condemns-attack-on-peacekeepers-in-abyei\/","title":{"rendered":"UN Chief Condemns Attack On Peacekeepers in Abyei"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"21.7946577629\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sudantribune.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/img\/static\/publishers\/minibanners\/sudantribune180.png\" alt=\"Sudan Tribune (Paris)\" title=\"Visit Sudan Tribune (Paris)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>20 May 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>New Yrok \u2014 UN chief Ban Ki-moon condemned on Friday the attack carried on UNMIS peacekeepers while they were escorting northern Sudanese troops in the flashpoint Abyei border area.<\/p>\n<p>A convoy of UN peacekeepers on Thursday evening was escorting 200 troops of Joint Integrated Units of the Sudan Armed Forces, as part of the deployment plan agreed to by the parties.<\/p>\n<p>Sudanese army criticized the silence of the UNMIS over the identity of the attackers and accused the northern Sudanese army of being responsible of this aggression over its troops.<\/p>\n<p>UN &#8220;Secretary-General strongly condemns the attack against an UNMIS (United Nations Mission in Sudan) escort convoy on 19 May 2011 in Abyei&#8221; said a press statement released by his spokesperson.<\/p>\n<p>Ban Ki-moon termed the attack as &#8221; criminal act against the United Nations&#8221; but did not identify the assailants forces.
