This reflects increased confidence in the Zambian economy, and privatisation-related inflows. Growth has been strong and copper prices have recovered sharply,” partly reads the 124-page document.

However, net portfolio flows have been negative in most of 2009 and 2010, reflecting disinvestment in Government securities by foreigners that decreased share from 11 per cent ($250 million) in early 2009 to one and half per cent ($30 million) at end-September 2010.

On some local factors determining the flow of funds, the report notes that the prices of food has been one of them but that does not have a negative effect in Zambia and about four other African countries.

“In a number of countries (Burkina Faso, Malawi, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia), the 2010 harvest was strong, limiting price increases.

“And even where local prices have increased reflecting international prices, substitution to other less internationally traded crops has been possible because these too have been in plentiful supply.”

<fieldset>
<legend align="center">More News on allAfrica.com</legend>
</fieldset>

AllAfrica – All the Time

More:
Nation’s Net Capital Inflows Increase – IMF

James Muyanwa 20 May 2011 Zambia has recorded a pickup of net capital inflows mostly in form of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) due to increased investor confidence in the national economy, states the International Monetary Fund (IMF) recent report.
