In the face of death, there are no words to simplify your sense of loss,” he said.

He said it was disturbing that a large number of people had died in a single road accident at the very time that he was in the province to flag-off the road works.

I want to urge all road users to stop tolerating careless driving, overspeeding or indeed drunken driving anywhere in our beloved country.

Let us all stand up and discourage overloading because our lives are at stake when there is overloading or carelessness,” he said.

And RCZ Synod moderator Moses Mwale thanked President Banda and the Copperbelt administration for the support to the church and bereaved families during the entire period since the accident happened.

Reverend Mwale said the accident was a tragedy and that those bereaved needed the support of the president as father of the nation.

“We thank you for the food, coffins and other logistics that the provincial administration has given to us and we are grateful that you took time off your busy schedule to be with us,” he said.

And multitudes of people gathered at Ndola’s Kawama Cemetery where they paid their last respects to the 13 RCZ Boys and Girls Brigade members.

Copperbelt Minister Mwansa Mbulakulima, MMD Copperbelt vice-chairperson Frank Ng’ambi, UPND vice-president Richard Kapita and scores of members of the Boys and Girls Brigade and representatives from various Christian denominations attended the burial ceremony.

The multitudes spent hours waiting in the scorching sun for the bodies which were carried in a convoy of Zambia Army vehicles to arrive and the crowd waited for an additional period while families, members of the Boys and Girls Brigade and the RCZ conducted the final religious ceremonies for the 13 youths.

Meanwhile, former Zambia’s high commissioner to Japan, Godfrey Simasiku has said road carnage in Zambia is largely caused by public service drivers due to their reckless driving on highways.

Mr Simasiku, who is board chairperson for the Workers’ Compensation Board of Control said the level of irresponsibility by public service drivers accounted for the many avoidable accidents on highways because of over-speeding.

The former High Commissioner who is also an honorary road traffic officer and former Chifubu Member of Paliament (MP) conveyed condolences to the bereaved families.

<fieldset>
<legend align="center">More News on allAfrica.com</legend>
</fieldset>

AllAfrica – All the Time

Read more here:
RB Urges End to Overloading Vehicles

19 May 2011 President Rupiah Banda has called on road traffic regulatory authorities and the Zambia police to end overloading on motor vehicles and the reckless conduct by drivers.
