The Drug-Enforcement Commission (DEC) has dropped all money laundering charges against former Western Province Permanent Secretary Ikanuke Noyoo.<\/p>\n

DEC public relations manager John Nyawali said in a statement yesterday that the move followed the discovery that the Ministry of Finance had already recovered the money from Mr Noyoo’s gratuity.<\/p>\n

Mr Noyoo was arrested by the commission on April 14, 2011 for theft and money laundering involving more than K46 million.<\/p>\n

The commission urged other civil servants who have not retired their imprest to do so in good time through their respective departments to avoid future inconvenience.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the commission has arrested a revenue officer at Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) in Lusaka for alleged theft and money laundering involving more than K78 million.<\/p>\n

Mr Nyawali said Jason Lungu, 42, in his capacity as revenue officer at ZRA Mulungushi House allegedly stole more than K78 million meant for property transfer tax which was paid by a client.<\/p>\n
