Liverpool<\/a> midfielder Lucas Leiva<\/a> has set his sights on qualification for the Champions League<\/a> next term, despite the Merseyside club failing to qualify for European\u2019s elite competition for the second year in a row.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Brazilian international used to take the brunt of fans’ criticism but has been increasingly influential this campaign in a Liverpool side that has been revitalised by Kenny Dalglish.<\/span><\/p>\n

But a 2-0 defeat last weekend to Tottenham at Anfield has stalled Liverpool\u2019s late hopes of qualification for the Europa League via fifth place, however the 24-year-old is hopeful with the arrival of Dalglish and continuity at board level the club can regain its status as Champions League regulars.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking to Sky Sports News<\/em>, Lucas said: “We want to get back into the\u00a0Champions League\u00a0because it is where Liverpool belong. We will do everything we can.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We can see the owners and everyone involved is trying to strengthen the squad. They are working really hard to make a good team, so hopefully next season will be a good season for Liverpool.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Lucas also revealed he sees his long-term future at Anfield, having signed an extended contract with the club in March.<\/span><\/p>\n

He continued: “My plan is, of course, to play for Liverpool, win trophies and be a key player for the team.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Hopefully I will achieve my individual targets and then do really well with the team as well.”<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
