US singer Chris Brown has received six nominations ahead of this year’s Black Entertainment Television (BET) awards.<\/p>\n
The 22-year-old is up for best male R&B artist, the viewer’s choice prize and video of the year.<\/p>\n
He is nominated twice in the best collaboration category and also gets a nod for acting in the thriller Takers.<\/p>\n
The nominations follow the singer’s appearance at last year’s awards, during which he performed an emotional tribute to the late Michael Jackson.<\/p>\n
The event helped restore the public image of the star following his assault on then girlfriend Rihanna in February 2009.<\/p>\n
Brown was given five years’ probation and six months of community service after pleading guilty to the attack.<\/p>\n
Lil Wayne follows Brown with five nominations, three of which come from his guest appearance on Brown’s song Look at Me Now.<\/p>\n
The 28-year-old rapper is also up for best male hip-hop artist and the viewer’s choice award.<\/p>\n
Alicia Keys will be among the performers at this year’s awards, to be held on 26 June at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n
The singer received two awards at last year’s ceremony, from which Prince took home a lifetime achievement honour.<\/p>\n
