Everton<\/a> captain and former Manchester United<\/a> man Phil Neville<\/a> has backed Ryan Giggs<\/a> to replace Sir Alex Ferguson<\/a> in the Old Trafford hot-seat.<\/p>\n

As United\u2019s current boss approaches the age of 70, candidates for his replacement have been linked with the job, but Neville believes a home-grown replacement would be best placed to carry on the dynasty left by Britain\u2019s most successful manager.<\/p>\n

Neville told BBC Radio Five Live<\/em>: \u201cThe way I can see it developing is if say he develops a manager from within like my brother, like a Ryan Giggs that can carry on that dynasty, the foundations are there and the next person that comes in needs to be singing off the same hymn sheet.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat’s why I think the next manager of Manchester United might come from within and when you see Ryan Giggs and his character to me he looks like the perfect manager to follow Sir Alex Ferguson.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to a home-grown manager having understanding of how the club operates, Neville believes affection already earned with supporters can allow a boss additional time to build something if results are not instantaneous.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cI think if Ryan Giggs or somebody – Steve Bruce, Bryan Robson – then you’ve got someone that the fans can easily relate to straight away, so they’re going to get extra time. It’s like the Kenny Dalglish situation at Liverpool; they’re going to get leeway for a couple of defeats.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf Mourinho came in straight away he needs to produce and yes Manchester United need to produce anyway but somebody that’s been promoted within, that is a United legend, I think it might even be easier for them.\u201d<\/p>\n
