Mancini confirmed after Tuesday’s win over Stoke that Tevez, who currently sits top of the Premier League goalscoring charts alongside Dimitar Berbatov, has told him that he wants to stay at the club.<\/p>\n
De Jong added: \u201cCarlos has made it clear to the squad he still sees himself as a Manchester City player and we hope he will continue to be.<\/p>\n
“If the gaffer has said that about Carlos, it’s a great pleasure to hear. Everybody hopes he will. It’s not a case of him wanting to go. It’s a family thing for him.<\/p>\n
“But everyone knows what kind of player Carlos is. You don’t see goals like that so often.<\/p>\n
“After being out for a long time he’s come back and shown his class. He’s helping us get over the line.\u201d<\/p>\n
City now sit in third place in the Premier League table and have to match Arsenal\u2019s result on the final day of the season to ensure they will not have to face a play-off to reach the group stage of the Champions League.<\/p>\n
A trip to the Reebok Stadium to play Bolton is all that separates De Jong and his team-mates from achieving such a feat, and adding the club’s highest league finish in 34 years to their FA Cup triumph.<\/p>\n
“Going into the group stage immediately is something we’d like to do and now that is in our own hands,\u201d added De Jong.<\/p>\n
“It’s always tough against Bolton and they are strong on their own ground.<\/p>\n
“But we have to be mentally strong and give 100 per cent.<\/p>\n
“We can’t rely on Fulham beating Arsenal. If we do what we need to do we don’t need favours from anyone else.”<\/p>\n
